I got rid of the purple 'cause I figure this looks more grown up.
Even though I still feel like a kid in a lot of ways, I wanted my blog to look more like a grown-up's.
The change may be temporary though, 'cause purple is my favorite color.

I usually never watch the Oscars, but I'm so looking forward to the show tommorrow. I'm not watching it to see who won though...well, obviously I'd like to see Jamie Fox win, but I'm watching because Beyonce will be performing a few songs for the best soundtrack award and I want to see how Chris Rock does as host. I listen to talk radio (conservative and liberal) and I want to be able to tell whose hating on him and who's not.
The show is SO long...I'll probably do my nails or Pilates or something while it's on.

I think I may be forming some kind of unhealthy attachment to Zach Braff. Since Garden State came out, i've been watching Scrubs every week. The Garden State soundtrack has been playing in my car for two months now and I just added it to my playlist on my PC at work. I popped the dvd in this morning and sang along with all the songs. I love Zack Braff. He's so funny in Scrubs.
I ran across his blog too. It's archived back through July 2004. Check it out: http://www.gardenstate.typepad.com

This was a really long week for me. No time to blog or read or check my email. I haven't even logged many phone hours this week with my folks...probably hit a record low. But, I have a cool week/weekend to look forward to next week. To start, I have Monday off work (unofficially--I'll still be logged in from home just in case), which means I'll get to have breakfast in my pjs, watch Goodtimes (which I never get to do), workout late in the morning, take the dogs to the park (weather's been sucky, they deserve a day out), take a bath in the middle of the day, watch Oprah, and hopefully finish reading my book (see Still Reading on the left).
I have Friday off too. I'm driving down up to Dallas (no matter wher it is it seems like when you're going somewhere it's "down"...or maybe that's just me) to kick it with Summer, Zare (pronounced zar-ay) and Petar for the weekend. I'm looking forward to it...I get to watch Zare do all the cute 11 and a half month-old things and catch up with The Parents. Usually Summer and I stay up all night talking, but I'm sure with her being a mommy and with me taking a break from caring for the 3 lovelies in my life, that we'll both be getting some well-deserved shut-eye.
We're going to the Ebony Fashion Fare Fashion show on Sunday. I'll try my best to take pictures without looking goofy. I wonder if it will be legal for me to take pictures. I'll see. Either way, I'll be sure to recap.

William's
first year birthday party was nice...so many little ones running around playing and laughing. Of course Billy fell right in with the kids, playing take-away with balloons and making silly faces at the babies--they love him. I love seeing him with kids...gotta make him my baby daddy.

We went to a birthday party of one of our friends, Stacey, last night. She and her husband are really cool peeps. She's one of those people who's instantly familiar (in a non-obnoxious way) and he's into comic books and art house films. Honestly, I didn't feel like going--I was so tired, just wanted to come home after work and sleep...but, I was pumped up a bit as I wrapped her gift--a black tri-fold picture frame and a black and white disposable camera. At first I was just going to get the frame, but I decided to make it a theme gift. I got the idea from Rachel Ashwell (of Shabby Chic). It's fun to give a gift with a little something extra. I wrapped each in different (but matching) paper and stacked and tied them together with ribbon. It was cute. The party was cool...they had a DVD playing all Prince videos downstairs and Bob Marley tunes set the mood for the Spaids games going on upstairs.
We're going to a birthday party for our college friend's 1 year old on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to that. Rami and Masoun always have the best get-togethers. They are perfect hosts. It's cool to hear all the conversations going on in Arabic...and seeing familiar faces from college is always cool.
We could have been 3 for 3 with parties all weekend, but we were DISSED by our neighbors!
We heard through the grapevine that one couple (we call them the Asian neighbors) is having their baby shower today and WE WEREN'T INVITED! I'm sure it's because we were a no-show at their Christmas party. But, they invited us to a party for Christmas day....on Christmas Eve! We told them we would be at home all day on Christmas, and that we'd planned on just chiiling out here. But they were so nice to invite us...and bring cookies...but we were really looking forward to vegging out together. We did say, "Maybe, we'll see." I guess they assumed we would be there since they're only 2 houses down. Our neighbors next door (the Indian neighbors) went and we're paranoid that they told them we were at home.
In our defense, we tried to find their number to call and cancel, but we couldn't find it. We spent Christmas in our pjs all day and neither of us wanted to get dressed to walk down and cancel in person.
We have to work on a make-up plan now, 'cause they're good neighbors...and it's no fun being left out.

I had a creepy dyslexic moment today. I was sending an email at work...about anothr email... and in it I wrote "elaim" instead of "email"...how weird is that? I just stared at the word after I typed it and it seemd like a few seconds went by in slow motion. It was strange. I wondered how those letters could have come out of my head in that order. Creepy.

Watched WAY too much tv today. So I started my day with breakfast, then cleaning, then a report I was supposed to do on Firday but forgot, then Love Actually (Hugh Grant is SO cute), then church, then Love Actually AGAIN. I feel guilty about not taking the dogs out today. The weather was really great. Since we got the treadmill I don't depend on walking the dogs for exercise anymore. Poor babies. I have to be a better doggy mommy. Can't wait to see Oprah's (Harpo) production of Their Eyes Were Watching God. It's coming on Sunday, March 6 on ABC in Desperate Housewives' time slot. Halle Berry's playing Janie. If you can watch it with a girlfriend you should. Speaking of Desperate Housewives, it's been on for half an hour now and I need to get Billy his dinner, so...gotta go.

My twin's new place is open and his new website is up and running. I'm really proud of my bro. He's the bomb. We all gotta go some time. In North Little Rock, hopefully, he'll be the new go-to guy. Rodney, YOU ROCK!

We went dancing last night. The old gray mare ain't spry as she use to be. I was lucky the DJ sucked. We sat out more songs than we would have if he had played more than James Brown and a million other songs I've never heard IN MY LIFE! Billy kept requesting songs and the DJ finally played some song by Shaggy, not even Boombastic...I can't even think of the name of it...SHAGGY...in 2005...THAT was the song he played to "set it off" and had the nerve to give Billy "Big ups" on the mic. It was so embarrassing. Bad music aside we had a great time dancing together. It was fun.

I'm talkin' 'bout cool inventions by Black folks this month. It's Black history month, so why not give a nod to some of those folks who made life a little sweeter, huh? George Crum, Black and Native American, invented potato chips in 1853. He worked in a New York restaurant and made thin fries for a crappy customer who complained that his fries were too thick. They tasted great, yada yada yada, we love Cheetos. Hopefully, you'll think about Mr. Crum the next time you're enjoying ye old savory fried root, and tell somebody else about him too. Peace

Cleaning: Washed sofa slipcovers...SO convenient to have slip-covered sofas, 'specially when you have two spoiled dogs with full house privileges.
Shopping: World Market (mantel clock), Pier 1 (table lamp)
Superbowl Party: With my husband's "band" members...missed Desperate Housewives...painful to watch Donovan McNabb throw so many bad passes.
Browsing: Barnes & Noble-changed next book on reading list...See "Next Up".

It was like 11 o'clock at night and we let Stella out in the backyard to pee. Billy let her back in the house, and I heard him say, "What's wrong with Stella's face?" Just at the sound of his question, I was panicked...before I even saw her face. When I came in and saw her, I wanted to scream and cry at once (Summer and Terri tease me about my tendency to combine emotions...cry and giggle...at the same time). I wanted to call 911, but immediately figured they would think it was a prank call or something. Instead I called the animal hospital emergency line and they said she had most likely been bitten by a spider or something and was having an allergic reaction...said to give Stella doses of child benadryl until the swelling went down. So, pretty close to midnight, we load the dogs in the car, head down to the 24 hour drugstore for the meds. It was a pretty cool experience...kind of felt like a caring parent that night. I imagine if it were an actual child things would have played out pretty much the same. Billy kept his head, I totally lost it.

Well, 2 whole days after cutting my bangs, I've grown tired of them. My momma told me I didn't want bangs. Yep, you heard me...she told me I didn't want bangs. I should'a listened. She was with me at Lacy's Place in Memphis when I got the relaxer. She held on all those years with me and my naps...had to witness the moment when I went back to the wrap. When Rene was combing it out, I was like, "I think I want bangs." My momma was like (singing, like most of us southern girls do), "Naaaaw. Youdon'twon't baaangs, Queeel." I was like, "Really?" She was like, "Naaw, you don't won't baangs." I was like, "Okay." Then I came back home to Texas and took things into my own hands...you know the rest. I guess the good thing to come out of this is that now, I know for myself that I don't want bangs. Young folks. Gotta learn the hard way.
