This month, I reviewed High Definition Mascara. It creates the most dramatic lashes ever--almost like falsies. The super-unexpected feature on the applicator is likely the reason. It's tricky at first, but worth the practice. This mascara is not for everyday (unless you just roll like that), but when you want to make a statement, this mascara will make sure it's loud and clear.

What’s your trifecta? What is your favorite movie, book and cd/album?
You can only name one for each and share a little about your choices.
So Browngirl Speaks tagged me. It was SO hard to pick just one favorite, but I managed. I had bonus picks, but exercised restraint and deleted them from the post--playin' by the rules..
Movie: Love Jones Everything about this film makes it my all time favorite--the cast, the characters, the relationships, the city, the soundtrack...everything. Best thing about it was that for once, a major film featuring all brown people told a story of us outside the hood. No stereotypes, just black folks being, working, socializing, livin' life. Every time I watch it (I own the DVD), it takes me right back to 1997 (when the film came out) , to my college days when I met my man and my dearest friends. So many one-liners from the film are still part of our regular conversations like, "well damn" and "there it is". No film has become a part of me like this one. There hasn't been a black love story told like it since--on film (somebody please buy the rights to The Accidental Diva, and feel free to cast Nia Long and Larenze Tate as the leads-Thanks). One highlight of this film is when Darius Lovehall (Larenze Tate) performs a poem for Nina Mosely (Nia Long) called A Blues for Nina. Check it...
Warning. This clip is rated R so kids ask your mom before you click 'play'.
CD/ Album: Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Oh, Lauryn. I listen to this album all the time remembering when. She gave us her best on this album, then life did something to her and she hasn't been the same. It's a shame, because she's an amazing singer and her lyrical skills when she raps are unmatched by any other female artist I've heard. This album is that fire, y'all. I can't say I have a fave track; the whole album is hot. But I do love this one in particular called "Nothing Even Matters" ft. D'Angelo. It's a love song. If you've ever been in love or just mad infatuated, you will feel this song. Check it...
Book: Their Eyes Were Watching God I've written about this one before. Here's what I said:
After last time read back in 2005...
" This was my third of fourth time reading this book. When I heard O was
doing a movie version of it, I had to read it again to refresh. I was
kind of surprised they left out the skin-tone issues...maybe 'cause Tea
Cake's character in the movie wasn't dark-skinned like he was in the
book. I don't think you can read this one too many times. Each time the
experience is different, especially if you read it at different stages
in your life like I have...young teen, older teen, newly married woman, etc.
It's such a rich work of fiction."
I think it might be time for another read since I'm good and married now. :)
Browngirl's trifecta theme was relationships, and based on my picks, looks like relationships is my theme too.
I remember when this Coke commercial came out during the Olympics one year--I loved it. I remember calling my friend (or maybe she called me) and we were both like, "Did you see that commercial..." The woman's name is Sharlene Hector and the song is "I wish I knew how it would feel to be free". I was looking for the one that made Tyrese famous on Youtube and found this one. I dare you to watch it and not feel happy...or at least feel like spreading peace and love. :)
Lyrics to full song...
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
say 'em loud, say 'em clear
for the whole round world to hear.
I wish I could share all the love that's in my heart
remove all the bars that keep us apart
I wish that I could say all the things that I should say
say 'em loud, say 'em clear
for the whole round world to hear.
I wish I could give all I'm longing to give
I wish I could live like I'm longing to live
I wish that I could do all the things that I can do
though I'm way overdue I'd be starting anew.
I wish you could know what it means to be me
Then you'd see and agree
that every man should be free.
Well I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
how sweet it would be if I found I could fly
Oh I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
and I'd sing cos I'd know that
I'd know how it feels to be free
I'm keeping an orchid alive! It was a gift from Billy about a month ago and it's still alive...with new blooms and everything. I'm also working on reviving my other house plants, which I've been neglecting for the past few months.
Holiday parties start this weekend! I love this time of year...hosting people, going to parties, pictures, decorations, reasons to dress up. :) Have a wonderful weekend, y'all!
And just because Beyonce is awesome it's Friday, and Beyonce is all over the place promoting her new album (YAY!) I'm posting this beautiful performance vid of her singing Ave Maria from her album...the I AM side:
1. Lipstick Jungle has been canceled. Hopefully there is hope for another season somewhere--I don't know any details, but I remain hopeful.
2. My boo boo is sick! I think he has a cold. He's in a good mood, but is all horse and snotty. Of course I can't give a 9 month old cold medicine, so I'm just giving him Tylenol drops to keep his fever down and spoiling him like crazy.
3. I was supposed to meet some women from my neighborhood moms club today, but nobody showed up...except for one very unfriendly lady who said she wasn't part of the group. Based on the yahoogroup board, this group doesn't seem as active or interactive as the other moms group I'm part of, but it's early, I just joined, I'll give them time. My kids will be growing up with their kids, so might as well get to know them early, you know?
4. My hair looks awesome, but it's dirty so I have to wash it. I hate it when a style looks good, but the scalp can't last another day. I think styles look best when they're a couple days old.
5. The berry cobbler I made is gone...and I have no more berries to bake another.
Amy Chua: Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother I'm reading this one as part of a Mocha Moms book club. Amy Chua was the keynote speaker at our National Conference in Las Vegas last year. She made a great impression on me. Cannot wait to read her book and discuss with other moms. I'll also review it here on Homegirl.
Tad Hills: How Rocket Learned to Read My son loves this book! He's learning to read now, so he relates to Rocket. At night, he says he wants to wake up with a waggy tail, ready for class. :-)

Clinique Beauty Reviews!
During 2009 and 2010, I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of 20 U.S. Clinique Insiders. As a Clinique Beauty Insider, I did monthly videos and written reviews of Clinique cosmetics and skincare products. There are new Insiders now, but my 2010 reviews are still over there. A few of the best ones from my 2 years with them can be found on Clinique's Youtube and Facebook pages. Enjoy!
